| The Pennsylvania Women’s Legislative Exchange (PaWLX) is a 501(c)3 organization. PaWLX is non-sectarian, non-partisan and is NOT a PAC. The goals and objectives of PaWLX are to educate women in the legislative processes of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and to network with women across the state to encourage them to get involved in legislative issues. |
| |
History |
 |
| The Pennsylvania Women’s Legislative Exchange (WLX) was created in 1969 by the Legislative Chairpersons from seven women’s organizations across the state who recognized that by working together and combining efforts a combined organization would accomplish a number of things: |
- Introduce more women to the legislative process.
- Provide a networking forum for members to share their issues of concern and position on issues with others.
- Educate members on the different positions on issues so they can make an informed decision.
- Empower the members to present a combined voice and work together on legislation when their stand on an issue coincides.
- Offer speakers from the Legislature or staff and from organizations that will provide expertise in areas of concerns.
|
Who We Are Now |
 |
Membership consists of both organizations and individuals from across the state who recognize the importance of being informed on issues concerning women and family. PaWLX represents a diverse group of organizations and individuals who bring a unique perspective
Speakers are usually eager to address PaWLX members because the diversity of membership allows them to reach a large number of people from every background. |
| |
Activities |
 |
| PaWLX offers a number of different activities for members to take advantage of, including: |
- A speakers bureau.
- An action and information alert system so members and others who have indicated an interest in legislative issues are notified immediately of issues that need to be addressed, or upcoming events.
- Get Out The Vote project, which is designed to get people to the polls, and to educate young people about the importance of voting.
- A scholarship fund for women.
- A newsletter, “The Exchange” which is an excellent vehicle to get information out to women interested in issues.
|
Plans For The Future |
- Host Legislative Exchange luncheons with corporate sponsors to bring women up-to-date on legislation and other issues (health care changes, child care, elder care, domestic violence, etc.)
- Sponsor an annual state-wide legislative exchange conference.
- Develop a “Women’s Yellow Pages” reference guide of women-owned or operated businesses and organizations.
- A scholarship fund for women.
- Maintain a women’s calendar with events from organizations from across the state to provide a quick reference to activities.
